    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I determine my project goals?

In the initial stage, the webmaster needs to identify your website’s end goal. Determine your goal by providing the following information:

    1. Who is the site for – your target audience?
    2. What do they expect to do or find on your site?
    3. Is the primary purpose to inform, sell, or entertain?
    4. Will the majority of site visitors use a desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile device – or all of the above?
    5. Will your website convey a core brand message, or is it part of a wider branding strategy with a unique focus?
    6. What are your SEO needs?

Provide links to competitor sites, if they exist – and explain how your website should differ or be the same in regards to your competitors.

    How to determine SEO considerations?

Content helps boost a site’s visibility for search engines and success depends on getting your keywords and key-phrases right. It is advised that clients use the Google Keyword Planner to view the search volume for potential target keywords and phrases in order to determine what real humans are searching on the web. These keywords and phrases need to be strategically placed in content that is well-written and informative to be easily picked up by search engines.

Do I need to provide images and graphics?

Images play a significant role in web design and high-quality images not only convey a professional look-and-feel, but they are device-friendly and help build trust by conveying vital messages without requiring that every word is read. We have access to hundreds of thousands of royalty-free professional images as well as the ability to create custom graphics and do not recommend using amateur images in the actual website design. Personal or company images can be displayed in galleries where any lack of professionalism is understood and not detrimental to the design of your website.

    What is considered out-of-scope?

Your project’s scope of work is determined before a quote is presented. We do this by analyzing the goals and refining the scope to meet those goals. The quote presented is honored through completion of the project – unless there is “scope creep” at the specific request of the client.

Scope creep occurs when the client’s initial goals on which the quote is based either expands, evolves, or changes during the design/development process. Project quotes are based primarily on the time and expertise required to deliver desired results. So, if a client changes the scope to alter the time/expertise required – then the cost increases. Changes to scope that result in price increases are determined at the webmaster’s discretion and approved by the client in writing prior to implementation.

Will I be able to make content revisions?

The most important goal we have is to build you an awesome website. The second most important goal is that it be one you can easily revise. Clients who opt for EMG to create content are encouraged to review and revise to ensure there are no mistakes and that we capture your intent with our words. So, of course, you can make revisions. However, multiple micro-edits will be considered out-of-scope. If you’re a “tweaker” – best you wait until the site is complete and tweak the language yourself, as often as you want.

Should I opt for monthly webmaster services?

That depends. Do you have the time and expertise to keep your website updated, monitor site security, generate backups, optimize the database? If not – you have two options: 1) hire a webmaster; or 2) learn how to maintain your website. The most important benefit of hiring a webmaster is their ability to keep your site updated and secure. If your site crashes during a routine update or gets hacked – the downtime and stress can be a killer, and the cost will be far more than a monthly charge. These situations can be avoided by subscribing for services that give you the freedom to focus on your business.

    Does EMG offer payment options?

We recognize that in recent years it has become vital for businesses large and small to have a website. Positioning yourself online with a strong, professional presence gives customers/clients the impression you mean business and are motivated to engage with them to earn their business.

We should all be aware that, before people shop, they visit online websites and check reviews. Surfing the web to check out a business has replaced strolling down Main Street to window-shop. It doesn’t matter if you’re a one man/woman show or have 100+ employees – your website needs to be professional, polished, easy to navigate, and impart a feeling that you want to do business with the site visitor.

That said, website development or upgrade can place a financial burden on small businesses. EMG accepts credit cards for payment, and offers a site development payment plan. The terms are simple…

    1. Website must be hosted with EMG and remain hosted until the balance is paid in full.
    2. Remit initial advance payment = Total Quote divided by 12 monthly payments – 1 payment in advance.
    3. Remit remaining 11 payments at the beginning of each subsequent month via subscription for automatic payment.
    4. Balance can be paid in full at any time during the 11 month period.
    5. Subscribe to EMG monthly maintenance plan to ensure updates, security, monitoring, support, and backups of the website.
    6. Understand and agree that non-payment results in suspension of the website until payment is received.

Extension of the payment plan is assessed on an individual client basis and made at the sole discretion of EMG. Contact the webmaster for more information and qualification criteria.
